Oct. 2, 2007 Texas A&M International University defeated Southwestern in five games (27-30, 30-20, 30-28, 21-30, 15-6) in non-conference volleyball action on Tuesday night at the TAMIU Kinesiology & Convocation Building. The Dustdevils have now won three of their last four matches. TAMIU (5-11) jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the fifth game and deciding game behind the serving of Mary Koch. That lead would stretch to 10-2 and Southwestern (13-4) would get no closer than six points the rest of the way. Three Dustdevils finished with double-figure kill numbers. Brittany Smith led the way with 21 kills with Ladys Montaño contributing 20 kills and Nicole Gipson 17 kills. Also making a big contribution to the Dustdevil cause were Madison Mojica and Mary Koch. Mojica finished with a career-high 42 digs and Koch notched a career-high 59 assists. TAMIU will return to Heartland Conference play with a home contest against St. Edward's on Wednesday night. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. |
