Final Stats

UT-Permian Basin scored twice in the opening 10 minutes en route to a 5-2 Heartland Conference win over Texas A&M International University on Thursday afternoon at Dustdevil Field.

TAMIU (0-9-1, 0-3 Heartland) cut the deficit to 2-1 on a Giselle Gayton goal from 30 yards out in the 21st minute but UTPB (3-7, 1-3) scored twice in the 26th minute to push the lead to 4-1. Brittany Merritt scored a goal in the 29th minute to cut the lead to 4-2 but that would be as close as the Dustdevils would get.

Neither team scored after the early barrage until UTPB's Hannah Dozier put the ball in the net at the end of a long run in the 82nd minute. UTPB out-shot TAMIU 25-6, limiting the Dustdevils to one second half shot.

TAMIU will return to action on Saturday with a home conference game against Dallas Baptist. Kickoff against the Patriots is scheduled for 1 p.m.
