Sept. 30, 2007 Texas A&M International University and Newman tied 1-1 in Heartland Conference women's soccer action on Sunday afternoon at Dustdevil Field. The tie snapped a three-game losing streak for the Dustdevils. Claire Ewald boosted Newman (3-4-1, 0-0-1) to a 1-0 lead in the 29th minute when she pounced on a loose ball and scored on a right to left post shot. Cassie Delgado would answer for TAMIU by scoring on a penalty kick in the 31st minute. TAMIU goalkeeper Mary Jo Hall kept the Dustdevils in the game with nine saves. She made two outstanding stops late in regulation, making a diving save of a hard shot in the 79th minute before grabbing an on-line shot at the top of the box in the 89th minute. Jennifer Davis contributed five saves for Newman. TAMIU (1-7-1, 0-2-1) returns to action on Thursday with a home conference game against UT-Permian Basin. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. on the home field. |
