Anna Girdwood enters her fifth season as head coach at Texas A&M International University. She believes the Dustdevils are in position for a breakthrough season in the Heartland Conference in 2009 in what will be the team's second season as an active NCAA Division II member. Girdwood has compiled a 14-54-3 record in her first four seasons. The Dustdevils posted a 1-19 overall record last season, going 0-12 in conference play. Girdwood directed the Dustdevils to a 7-7-2 record in her first season at the helm in 2005. That team posted its best conference record in four years as a Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) member at 3-3. The squad entered the RRAC postseason tournament as the fourth seed before advancing to the championship game on the strength of a shoot-out advantage over College of the Southwest in the semifinal round. Jazmin Velez and Maxine Caballero earned second-team All-RRAC honors after Girdwood's inaugural season as head coach. A native of England, Girdwood arrived in the United States in 1998 to work at Ashley's Soccer Camp in New Jersey. She worked at that camp for seven years before resigning to take her first head coaching position. Girdwood began her collegiate playing career at Montclair State University in 2001. Her playing career ended after one season due to injury but her affiliation with the program, would continue for three more years as a student assistant coach. Girdwood helped guide MSU to three straight winning seasons, with the Red Hawks reaching the NCAA Division III playoffs for the first time in 2004. Girdwood graduated with a bachelor's in humanities from Montclair State in 2004. She holds the UEFA `B' coaching license. |
