Dec. 4, 2007 Houston Baptist withstood a second half rally to defeat Texas A&M International University 60-58 at the Houston Baptist Classic on Tuesday night. HBU (5-3) led 33-21 at halftime and 57-46 with 4:14 remaining but the Dustdevils kept fighting back. Beth Hampton hit two three pointers in the final two minutes, the second one cutting HBU's lead to 60-58 with 35 seconds remaining in regulation. The Dustdevils had to foul three times at that point to send HBU to the free throw line. Krystal Benson-Cooper grabbed Jasmin Moore's missed free throw with 16 seconds remaining but the Dustdevils would not get off a final shot with Jasmine June committing a turnover with seconds remaining. June led the Dustdevils with 20 points. Nicole Gipson finished with her first double-double of the season, 15 points and 10 rebounds. She nearly got a triple-double, finishing with a school single-game record nine blocks. TAMIU (3-3) will conclude play at the HBU Classic on Wednesday with a contest against Harding. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. |
