Final Stats

Texas A&M International University opened the Arkansas Tech Thanksgiving Classic with a 63-53 win over Ouachita Baptist on Friday night. The win boosted the Dustdevils to a 2-1 record for the season.

The two teams played nearly even the entire game before a strong finish pushed the Dustdevils into the win column. OBU led 29-28 at halftime with TAMIU opening the second half with a 14-7 run to take a 42-36 lead at the 12:30 mark. The Dustdevils would build that lead to seven points on two occasions but OBU cut the lead to 52-50 on a pair of Gabby Coleman free throws with two and a half minutes remaining.

TAMIU iced the game by outscoring Ouachita Baptist 11-3 the rest of the way. Sophomore Mary Tobias scored seven points during that stretch, including a layup and free throw that pushed the Dustdevils to a 59-51 lead with 49 seconds remaining.

Tobias led the Dustdevils with 19 points. Jasmine June finished with 16 points and a team-high nine rebounds. June and Krystal Manning led the team with four assists apiece.

TAMIU will close-out tournament play against host Arkansas Tech tomorrow night. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
