Nov. 17, 2007 Wayland Baptist defeated Texas A&M International University 68-63 in non-conference action on Saturday night at the TAMIU Kinesiology and Convocation Building. WBU (4-1) led 31-22 at halftime but TAMIU opened the second half with a 12-3 run to take a 37-34 lead at the 16:54 mark. The two teams battled evenly for the next six minutes before Wayland Baptist went on a 10-2 run to take a 56-49 lead with seven minutes remaining in regulation. TAMIU fought back again and tied the score 62-62 on a three-pointer by Mary Tobias with 1:33 left in the game. Wayland Baptist made two of two field goal attempts and two of three free throw attempts the rest of the way to secure the win. Junior Jasmine June turned in a solid performance, leading the team with 24 points and nine rebounds. Mary Tobias made five three-pointers en route to finishing with a career-high 23 points. TAMIU (1-1) returns to action next weekend at the Arkansas Tech Thanksgiving Tournament. The Dustdevils will face Ouachita Baptist on Friday and host Arkansas Tech on Saturday. |
