Texas A&M-Corpus Christi defeated Texas A&M International University 68-51 in the exhibition opener for both teams on Friday night in Corpus Christi. TAMUCC is a NCAA Division I member of the Southland Conference. TAMIU led by as many as eight points in the first half and trailed only by four, 27-23, at halftime. The Islanders opened the second half with a 10-2 run to take a 37-25 lead and the Dustdevils would get no closer than eight points the rest of the way. Junior Jasmine June, a transfer from Texas A&M-Kingsville, led the Dustdevils in points (20) and rebounds (9). Sophomore Mary Tobias contributed 12 points and freshman Krystal Manning finished with a team-high three steals. TAMIU will play its second exhibition game next Friday against another Southland Conference opponent, Texas State. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Strahan Coliseum in San Marcos. |
