Huston-Tillotson defeated Texas A&M International University 75-64 on Sunday afternoon in second day action at the Texas A&M-Kingsville Holiday Tournament. The loss to HTU, a former Red River Athletic Conference rival, stretches TAMIU's losing streak to four games. The game was tied 20-20 at the 6:00 minute mark of the first half but HTU (1-9) ended the period with a 15-6 run to take a 35-26 halftime lead. TAMIU (3-6) battled back in the second half and HTU's lead was cut to 64-60 when Chris Swan made two free throws with a little over four minutes left in regulation. Huston-Tillotson went on another run at that point, scoring six straight points to build and insurmountable 70-60 lead at the 1:58 mark. Swan led the Dustdevils with 20 points and four assists. Ignacio García and Derek Barnes finished with 13 points apiece. García also contributed a team-high six rebounds. TAMIU will take an eleven day break before returning to action on Jan. 10 at UT-Permian Basin. The game will be the Heartland Conference opener for both teams. |
