Dec. 29, 2007 Xavier (La.) defeated Texas A&M International University 72-54 on Saturday afternoon in the opening round of the Texas A&M-Kingsville Holiday Tournament. The loss stretches TAMIU's losing streak to three games. Xavier (10-1) never trailed in the game. The Gold Rush jumped ahead 13-4 en route to a 29-19 halftime lead. TAMIU (3-5) cut Xavier's lead to 46-37 on a jumper by Jerante Morgan at the 11:15 mark of the second half but the Gold Rush responded with a 7-0 run to build an insurmountable 53-37 lead. Tracy Johnson finished with a career-high 13 points and six rebounds for the Dustdevils. Chris Swan contributed 10 points and six rebounds. TAMIU will conclude tournament play on Sunday against former Red River Athletic Conference rival Huston-Tillotson. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. |
