Junior Chris Swan made a layup with seven seconds remaining to push Texas A&M International University to a 79-78 win over Houston Baptist on Wednesday night at the Kinesiology and Convocation Building. The win was TAMIU's first over its former Red River Athletic Conference rival. HBU entered the game with a 6-0 edge in the all-time series. Swan setup the last shot by grabbing a rebound of a missed Emanuel Willis shot with 14 seconds left in regulation. He took the ball the length of the court and drove through traffic before laying it in for the game-winner. Baron Sauls missed a jumper at the buzzer for HBU. The exciting finish capped an evening in which the lead changed hands 12 times. TAMIU led by as many as six points in the second half and HBU (1-10) led by five at the 8:22 mark. Swan and Jerante Morgan led the Dustdevils with 13 points apiece. Derek Barnes and Sean Tucker contributed 12 points apiece. Tracy Johnson finished with a team-high 11 rebounds. TAMIU (2-3) returns to action next Tuesday night with a home game against Sul Ross State. Tip-off in that Salvation Army Toy Drive contest is set for 7 p.m. |
