Texas A&M International University sophomore centerfielder Rey Alvarez has been named Heartland Conference Hitter of the Week for games played Apr. 20-26. The honor was announced by the conference office on Tuesday afternoon.

Alvarez led TAMIU's offensive surge in a three-game road sweep of Newman, going 10 for 16 to finish with a .625 batting average. He also contributed four runs scored, three RBI, one walk and one stolen base.

Alvarez notched two hits and a RBI in an eleven-run fifth inning in the opener that helped TAMIU fight back from a 13-3 deficit to a 15-13 win. He also contributed RBI hits in the seventh and eighth innings in a 16-13 win over the Jets in the finale.
