Lincoln swept Texas A&M International University in Heartland Conference doubleheader action on Saturday afternoon at Jorge Haynes Field on the TAMIU campus. The Blue Tigers won game one 1-0 before wrapping up a series win with a 2-1 win in the series finale.

TAMIU wasted strong pitching performances by John Gonzáles in the opener and B.J. Valadez in game two. Lincoln got enough offense for the win in the opener in the third inning with a leadoff double by Cie Arell followed by a RBI ground out by Chris Pfau two batters later.

The Dustdevils stranded nine runners in the loss, with five of those reaching scoring position.

TAMIU had runners on second and third with two outs in the sixth inning when David Pittman grounded out to end the threat. In the seventh the Dustdevils had runners on first and second base with one out before Curtis Schell struck out and Rey Alvarez grounded out to end the game.

Gonzáles (1-2) took the loss for the Dustdevils despite allowing only one run on three hits in 6.1 innings.

The strong pitching continued in the second game for the Dustdevils but, unfortunately, so did the lack of offensive punch.

TAMIU scored its only run of the game when Zeke Sosa tied the score 1-1 by scoring on a wild pitch in the third inning. Lincoln retook the lead on a RBI double by Kyle Lasley in the top of the fourth inning.

The Dustdevils got back-to-back one out singles in the bottom of the fourth inning but the threat ended after consecutive fly outs by Pittman and Sosa. TAMIU did not get a runner into scoring position the rest of the game.

B.J. Valadez (0-1) was the losing pitcher for the Dustdevils. He allowed only two runs (one earned) on four hits in 5.0 innings with seven strikeouts and three walks. Danny Navarro kept it close by contributing two scoreless innings of relief work.

TAMIU returns to action on Tuesday with a non-conference single home game against Texas A&M-Kingsville. First pitch against the Javelinas is scheduled for 2 p.m.
