Chad Porter

Player Profile

Position:
Head Coach

Chad Porter enters his third season as head baseball coach at Texas A&M International University. With two years of solid recruiting under his belt the veteran skipper is confident that that this year's Dustdevil squad has the potential to break through for an upper-division Heartland Conference finish.

Porter has compiled a 37-71 overall record for the Dustdevils thus far with a 34-64 mark in Heartland Conference play. His career record through seven seasons stands at 135-218.

Last season, two players earned All-Heartland Gold Glove honors under Porter's tutelage. Both players, shortstop Luís Bracero and center fielder Rey Alvarez, return for their senior campaigns for the Dustdevils in 2011.

Before arriving in Laredo Porter spent five years as head coach at Ohio Valley University, a NCAA Division II member of the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. He guided the Scots to a 98-147 overall record during his tenure with the team earning the first two conference tournament appearances in school history, one conference title and one NCAA Regional appearance.

Taking over a squad that won only six games in 2003, Porter quickly changed the tone and expectations of the program. OVU increased its win total in each of Porter's first two seasons at the helm before the program achieved a school-record 37 wins in 2006. That record-setting season included a WVIAC tournament title and NCAA Division II North-Atlantic Regional appearance. Porter was named conference Coach of the Year in recognition of those accomplishments.

Porter was an assistant at Ohio Valley for two seasons before taking over as head coach. He played college baseball at Heidelberg College and OVU.

Porter holds a bachelor's in physical education from OVU and a master's in physical education from West Virginia University. He is married to Valissa Porter and the couple has an three-year old daughter, Kennedy.
