The Texas A&M International University Athletics - Salvation Army summer camps program got off to a successful start last Thursday at the TAMIU Kinesiology-Convocation Building. Nearly 30 Salvation Army summer campers participated in various activities, including dodge ball and whiffle ball, under the supervision of baseball coach Chad Porter and softball coach Scott Libby.

The program will continue over the next three Thursday afternoons. Volleyball coach Wendy McManus will host a volleyball session this Thursday. Swimming and a planetarium visit are on the schedule for July 9 and the program will conclude with a soccer session on July 16.

Sports Information Director Dan Lathey says the partnership with the Salvation Army has grown stronger over the last couple of years.

"We conducted a baseball camp a couple of years ago off-campus and it went so well we decided to expand the program and bring it on campus," Lathey said.

"Our coaches and student-athletes enjoy the experience and the kids seem to have a great time so it is definitely a positive experience for everyone involved."
