The Texas A&M International University Athletics Department has been awarded a 2010 NACMA/Division II Community Engagement Award of Excellence Award in recognition of its sponsorship of a Veterans Appreciation initiative that includes a Veterans Appreciation breakfast and documentary film screening.

TAMIU Athletics has sponsored the Veterans Appreciation initiative in conjunction with Veterans Day since 2008 and is committed to continuing sponsorship into the future. The initiative is intended to honor student veterans as well as community veterans for their military service to our nation.

NCAA Division II and NACMA (National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators) staged the contest to build momentum for Division II's community-engagement initiative and reward institutions for their creativity in advancing relationships within their community.

A total of 18 NCAA Division II institutions were presented the award, with one winner representing each conference.
